My heavenly Father:
God is my first support of all. I am a religious person and truly believe in God my father and Jesus is his son. I have been through a lot of trials and tribulations in my life and God has been my greatest support. I pray daily and relay on him to change things I do not have the power to change. In scripture, it states, “The Lord is my Sheppard, I have everything I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength; He guides me along the right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even though I walk through the dark valley of death, I will not be afraid for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.” Psalms 23:1-4 (Tyndale, 2000) This scripture I carry with me daily as my support.
My children:
In my daily environment, my support is my children they help me to keep going day to day. My children are grown adults however; I feel they still need me. Although they may not feel they need me, I know that I definitely need them. I receive my children's support by having someone to come home to, to tell about my day at work. There are days at work that are stressful and one or two of my children are there to listen and give me the support to continue just by saying “Mom you go show them what you know, it will get better” The benefits I see from them is to have someone to talk to about things. We share stories of the past, the future, to laugh and enjoy life with my children.
My parents:
I have had a challenge in my life where the doctors told that I had to have life saving surgery to my heart. This placed me in fear of the unknown. I went to my mom and dad about what the doctor stated. I was able to get through the whole process with their unconditional support. My mom stayed with me to encourage me to believe that everything will be all right. When it came to time for me to have the surgery they found out that my body was doing okay with the diagnoses and the surgery could shorten or eliminate my life. It was a blessing and during that whole time, my parents were there by supporting me all the way.
My friends:
My friends are there for me to talk to about difficulties and give me assurance on the decisions I make. I have two friends in my life that I can rely on at all times. They are not judgmental. They accept me for who I am, I am able to be me all the time in their presence. It is great to have friends who will travel to the end of the earth with you.
My colleagues:
At work, I have colleagues who are there to talk to in times of good and bad. They give me support by giving me words of encouragement daily. They look at things that happen positively, which helps me see the positive out of everything going on around me. We go to lunch together and share center concerns to help in challenges that occur and we give each other advice on how to handle difficult situations. I love the support from them because it keeps me focused on why I am in early childhood education.
In Summary:
When I was sick and thought I was not going to live. I needed the support from God to know that our life is not ours but the father is in charge of our destination. My children were there to help me with the house and keep me cheered up. My parents were there to encourage me to continue every day as though there is no limit on my future. My colleagues were there to support me at work to make my daily work less stressful as possible. Then my friends were there with their listening ears and words of encouragement to help me see the future as it may be.
Without all of them above, I would find it hard to take the journey through life. I would not be where I am today in Early childhood Education, nor seeking a higher degree to accomplish my desire to help change the world. I feel that they are my eyes, ears, feelings, and sense of well- being. It would be very difficult to imagine what my world would look like if they were not there in my life daily. I need support from God, family, friends, and colleagues daily to give me the strength to continue into my daily challenges.
